I’ve been a Calgary-based, full-time freelance writer for nearly three decades. During that time, I’ve written hundreds of feature articles for magazines such as:
I’ve also written many articles, position papers, speeches and website postings for major Calgary companies, industry associations and Alberta government departments. For example, I have written much of the online content for Alberta’s Climate Change Central, specifically about what individuals and organizations can do to reduce their energy use and carbon impact: I also write a weekly news digest for Climate Change Central about what’s happening in the fast-changing worlds of energy efficiency and climate change. To read recent editions, check http://www.climatechangecentral.com/publications/other-publications/c3-news-digest-february-23-2011. I’ve also written the text and taken many of the photos for a series of award-winning Alberta trail maps being produced by Alberta TrailNet and the provincial government.
Prior to setting up my freelance business – I had a home-based business long before it became fashionable – I cut my writing teeth as a newspaper journalist. After completing a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, and taking a one-year journalism program at Carleton University, in Ottawa, I was a sports reporter in Fort McMurray, a correspondent for United Press Canada in Vancouver and Calgary and the Calgary bureau chief (okay, it was a one-man office) for the Edmonton Journal.
